Injuries: It is estimated that over 600,000 people between the ages of 18 and 24 are unintentionally injured because of the influence of alcohol each year.

Deaths:  It is estimated that over 1,700 students between the  ages of 18 and 24 die each year from alcohol-related unintentional injuries, including motor vehicle crashes.

Drunk Driving: Over 2 million students drive under the influence of alcohol each year.

Assaults:  It is estimated that over 600,000 students are assaulted by another student who has been drinking each year   

Sexual   Abuse: It is estimated that over 97,000 students  are victims of alcohol-related sexual assault or date rape each year    

Unsafe   Sex:  It is estimated that over 400,000 students  had unprotected sex as a result of their drinking and more than 100,000 students report having been too intoxicated to know if they consented to having sex.    

Academic   Problems: It is estimated that over 25 percent of  students report lower academic grades as a consequence of their drinking, missing class, falling behind, doing poorly on exams and   papers.   

Vandalism: Over 10 percent of student drinkers report that they have damaged property while under the influence of alcohol. Many college and high school campuses have a moderateto major problem with alcohol/drug related property damage.

Health/Suicide Issues: Thousands of students develop an alcohol-related health problem each year and approximately 1 to 2% say they have tried to commit suicide due to drinking or drugs.

Consequences of excessive and underage drinking affect almost all colleges and college students. A great many high schools and some middle schools are affected also. It makes no difference if they are younger or older than the legal drinking age and whether or not they choose to drink.

Successive Stages of Intoxication

First the drinker talks more than usual anad they usually experience more relaxation.

Next the drinker will experience loss of balance and confusion. They will experience impaired vision and speech, and may become angry or violent. this is usually followed by minimum control over their mind and body where they cannot stand or walk without help.

Finally the drinker passes into a coma, the lungs are unable to provide the proper amount of oxygen to the body, and the drinker most likely will die of respiratory failure.
